The Buffalo Soldiers of Seattle believe Mental health is a crucial issue that needs to be address among youth and adults. And we believe with our hikes, camps, horses and teachings of history we can make a change.
By using equine therapy while preserving influential American history; We have created programs lead by military vets, equine trainers, historians and community members that offers camps, workshops, trainings and experiences that prove to be useful in the keepings of one’s mental state.
Providing opportunities for our community to learn valuable life skills like the learning one’s history (you can’t know where you're going unless you know where you come from) Emergency first aid, the use of hand tools, basic auto car and engaging in outdoor activities such as horseback riding, fishing, hunting, hiking, sports and other physical activities. This allows one to expand their horizons, gain confidence, building character, self-worth all while experiencing the joys of the outdoors, community, horses, and history.
Mental health is a crucial issue that needs to be address among our communities, as it can help cope with the challenges of life and lead to a better future.
Our horses may be large and powerful, but they help people overcome fear and develop confidence that can be translated into real life situations. Working with horses, teaches us to be aware of our emotions.
We encourage and facilitate people to engage in activates such as grooming, feeding, and bathing. Those activities are the start of the mental therapeutic process. Working with horses, even in a short amount of time is beneficial to all involved. Not only do These activities create significant breakthroughs, but our horses can be used in counseling with individuals of all ages, even with families and groups
